For this week’s blog post, you are asked to practice incorporating and refuting an opposing argument. After reading “Thinking Outside the Bin” and watching Stuart’s TED Talk on food waste, view the Narrated slide presentation on Opposing Arguments, which explains the process of incorporating opposing arguments in detail, gives examples and template phrases, and provides a sample of what you’re asked to do in the blog. Then, write your own example using the blog prompt given in the slide presentation and pasted in below. Note that you are welcome to draw on the ideas from Mourad’s article and Stuart’s TED Talk, but you can also mainly draw on your own ideas. If you do use their ideas, acknowledge this by using signal phrases and quote marks/page numbers as necessary. Here’s the blog post assignment:

Consider the following idea. Do you agree or disagree with the statement?
The best response to the problematic practice of throwing massive amounts of food waste in landfills is to donate excess food to food banks.

1. Write one sentence that states your argument (considered opinion) on the topic.
2. Write one sentence describing an opposing view.
3. Write one sentence refuting the opposing view and stating why your argument makes more sense.
Remember, for a sample of what to write, see the Narrated slide presentation on Opposing Arguments.

Part#2 (125 words)
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has placed many of Canada’s national parks, historic sites, and culturally important sites on their list of World Heritage Sites in recognition of the outstanding universal value of the area (Nickerson et al., 2014).

To better familiarize ourselves with natural and cultural sites in Canada or all over the world, we will be visiting UNESCO’s World Heritage List and choosing just one from the list of 1121 sites. You can choose a site you have never heard of, a site that you would like to visit, or a site you have already been to. Once you have selected the site you would like to discuss/highlight, you will then do the following:

Start by adding a new discussion topic with your UNESCO site as the title.
In your own words (no copied from website) tell us:
Whether this is a cultural, natural or mixed (cultural & natural) site.
describe the site
where it is located
its history and/or historic significance and,
why you chose this site.
Note: please share the UNESCO website link to your site in your post so others can visit and read/see more.
