This type of paper is a technical paper. This particular style of writing and format for citation that we follow is that used by the Society of American Archaeology ( SAA). When you turn in your paper: you will need to turn in a copy of the article Journal must be CURRENT, Article must be CURRENT. The paper should be about Native American Tribes in the Midwest and the American Southwest and the current Pandemic/treatment by the government. Journals that may be used are as follows (and only these): Associated Press Reuters Huffpost.com Indianz.com Indiancountrytoday.com Navajotimes.com Nativenewsonline.net Lakotalaw.org Npr.org When you get the article, remember to write down Author name(s), Journal name, (where you get article from), Geographical region (where the group of people are located/live), and the 4 main points of the article. All of this you need for Cover Page and for writing the text. The paper will consist of three parts/sections: 1) an introduction/ brief summarization of the article 2) how each article is related to anthropology and/or any subdiscipline of anthropology 3) your conclusions, etc The cover page should include your journal information: The name of the journal The title of your article The Author The date of the article The Volume The Issue Number The pages numbers The text of each paper will be a total of at least 3 full pages in length. 3. Each paper: must be double-spaced and typed. It should also be of a normal font size (10-12 point, Times New Roman) 4. Margins: you should also have 1-inch margins. 5.Page: you should only type on the front of the page. 6. You MUST ATTACH: a photocopy of the article selected DO NOT PLAGIARIZE 8. Headings: for #8, 9, and 10, I stated to use the heading for each of these sections Each of these sections (Introduction/Summary, Body, and Conclusions) should have a heading as this helps to introduce what you are talking about. FIRST SECTION: INTRODUCTION/SUMMARY(use heading): Introduce what you are reading, then please summarize that article: this is the topic/case study or article that you have chosen. This is your summary: you are to summarize the article and to point out the main points/the focal points of the article. Length needs to be at least 1 page long (1pages). Writing needs to be concise. No flowery words, as this is a technical paper. 10. SECOND SECTION: BODY (use heading): After the summary, you must also write at least 1 page long (should be 1 page or more). Writing needs to be concise. No flowery words, as this is a technical paper. For what needs to be included in this section, see below. WHAT YOU MUST INCLUDE Demonstrate the main points that the author has covered about the article he/she has described. **2) Then state what YOU feel to be the most important points that the author has made about this topic or this group of people. **3) After you state the above, you need to state: a. YOU NEED TO CLEARLY STATE HOW THIS ARTICLE IS RELATED TO THE FIELD OF ANTHROPOLOGY b. WHICH SUBDISCIPLINE(S) IS IT THIRD SECTION: Conclusions (use heading): On your last page ( 1 page or more), please state what you were able to get out of this article/case. You need to be honest – do you know anything now that you did not know before? Did you really learn something? Was it a great article? Was it just incredibly boring? Authors When writing your papers, you may come up with some issues related to authors. I’ve stated a few below. a. State: 1) Who they are (Author/Archaeologist, etc.), then immediately after this 2) who they are affiliated with in parentheses (this may be a University, a magazine such as National Geographic, etc.). That way, I will know who they are and how they are affiliated to your article. b. As you mention your author,. c. When you use an author’s name: use the full name or last name ONLY. * NEVER use the first name only ** D. This DOES NOT mean that you need to write a section on your author. Just who they are when you are referencing them, so that you are doing so properly. Citations: For technical papers, all citations within the text must be done within the SAA Style Guidelines (for full guidelines of the explanation of the citation and bibliographic format used in the premier American journal of archaeology, American Antiquity, which is published by the Society for American Archaeology .
