For this assignment, you will be attempting to “sell” an object to the audience. The object/product you choose to “sell” must be new and not an existing product on the market. So, you will need to be creative and think outside of the box here. You will ultimately provide your audience with new and/or useful information regarding your object/product.
Think about it this way. You know that show, Shark Tank? That is essentially what you are going for. You are trying to sell the audience on the benefits of your new product and why they should buy your product or want your product in their lives! So, have fun and be creative with this! Your product can literally be ANYTHING of which you can think!
In-class this week, we talked about infomercials. Infomercials try to sell us different products just like you will be doing. We also discussed how infomercials typically use the Monroe’s organizational pattern of persuasion. You will need to use the Monroe’s pattern of organization for this speech assignment.
Some specific instructions for this assignment of which you will want to keep in mind are:
This should not be an informative or demonstration or “how to” speech.
The focus should not be a discussion of how to do something (e.g., how to build your own darkroom, etc)
The development of content throughout the speech should utilize Monroe’s Motivated Sequence
